What fourth of July traditions do you have?

I’m not American, so we don’t celebrate it, however my friends and I always get together and watch Independence Day on July fourth.

Just wanted to know if anyone else had fun (or meaningful) traditions!

My husband and I get invited to an elderly friends house (she’s 96!), along with many of her neighbors. We sit in her back yard and eat snacks, and watch the fireworks. What makes it so amazing is her house is on a cliff over the harbor and the fireworks are shot out and up over the Pacific Ocean, which is about a mile from our house.

When my husband and I first married, we always had Independence Day celebrations with both sides of our family. His parents always came in from Oklahoma, my family lived close to us, and it was always something different in the way of celebrating. No two years were alike, but they were always fun. One year there was a big horseshoe tournament, and a kite flying contest, not to mention the all important watermelon seed spitting contest.(that was just with my family) I have no idea what the city was doing that day. Those days are long gone now. Our daughter is married to a military man and lives on an Army base, they have their own celebration now. All my brothers and sister have families of their own, and celebrate with them. My father and father in law have both passed away. My husband and I usually celebrate the day with his mom. Then we go watch the cities fireworks, while talking about old times. They’re great memories, and I hope we never forget them. We still celebrate, we just have to do it a little differently now. We still love our country. God Bless America!!!

I spend time with my friends and family…cook out and celebrate freedom. I’m super happy this year…all of my family members are stateside—nobody is in Iraq right now!
