traditrional is always best. maybe some fruit like watermelon and sandwiches or hot dogs. chips is always nice with some wine or soda. and if you have desert you should buy some of those fourth of july cookies or make red white and blue jello

Have a good ol’ fashion american picnic potato salad, apple pie, maybe some kfc (lol jk) some ham/turkey sandwhiches, just pick something he likes, and you like.

Even with a wooden basket you can still add ice packs.
The last picnic I put together I served grilled shrimp, tossed salads and for dessert fresh strawberries to dip in sour cream and brown sugar. I know it sounds weird, but the sweet-sour-sweet combination is amazing. BTW, I brought a small tabletop gas grill to cook the shrimp on site.

Good luck and have a safe and happy Fourth of July.

A classic is a good cheese, salami, and wine/grape juice.

Think about a potato salad (and all this stuff is kept in the fridge until the last minute to keep it as cold as possible) and think about a hero or hoagie-style sandwich, sliced oranges or grapes and one of those 187 ml bottles of wine. Just enough so each of you can have a glass

Go with the classics: cheese (doesn’t require refrigeration and tastes better without it), fresh and dried fruits, some nice crusty bread, and a couple bottles of wine. A dry-cured sausage like hard salami would be nice, too.

I like Ina Garten’s Portable picnic recipe ideas.

Packs the food in take-out containers. I’d go with cold pasta salad, i.e. tuna, sliced black olives, onions, mushrooms, mayo & tri-color rotini pasta. Watermelon may be messy…so grapes or strawberries, & crackers and dip or cheese, sparkling cider or wine.

Or pick up a rotisserie chicken and take along potato or macaroni salad, and rolls, or gazpacho.

    Enjoy.

Ok you can get small freezer packs to go with your food. Of course make a good sandwich for the both of you and what’s a picnic without fruit or something sweet. So choc. covered strawberries would be nice (fresh), and grapes or wine would be good. You could also do welches sparkling juice if you guys don’t want to drink. If not fresh lemonade is nice. If you have heard of edible arrangements you can order a fruit basket from there and that would be perfect to. Go to edible arrangements .com they have all sizes so you can a small one. Hope this helps, have a great time!
