Traditional apple pie & cherry pie would be a dynamite desert!
I would start the cookout no later than 12:00p.m.!
The adults could play beer pong, twister, or bullshit (the card game!)

We’re having a block party and its starting at 6:00pm and will go on until around 11:00pm. We’ll block the use of the street for one block and everyone will contribute a dish to share as well as bring their own meat, utensils etc. Fireworks will start after the sun sets. So, here are some ideas:

    1. Along with grilled hot dogs, try having some hamburgers, vege burgers, and polish sausages.
    2. Side dishes might include baked beans, potato and macaroni salads, chips, pickles, olives, etc.
    3. You can also try a vege platter and fruit arrangement in a hollowed out watermelon.
    4. Have plenty of sodas and water on hand for guests to enjoy.
    5. A pinata might be fun for all guests, but especially the younger ones.
    6. If you have room, put up a volleyball net and get some teams formed. You can also have the usual pool games and relay races.
    7. Most folks will enjoy sitting around, watching the kids, enjoying a cold brew, and visiting. Plan on everyone bringing fireworks for a display later in the evening.
    8. Don’t start your event too early or too late! 4:00 is a decent time for folks to come and swim. Snacks start at 5 and dinner begins at 7.
    9. Don’t let folks drink too much and then drive home! Confiscate car keys and establish designated drivers.
    10. Cupcakes, cookies, brownies, lemon bars, coconut cake, fruit based pies and homemade ice cream are all hits. And, if you’re so inclined, how about some Key Lime?

If you’re going to be grilling, here are a few recipes that you may enjoy:

    Peanut Chicken Shish Kebab:

2 lbs boneless chicken breast, cut into 1/2″ x 1″ strips
    1/2 cup peanut butter
4 scallions, green part only chopped fine
    4 tablespoons, +/-, sesame oil
    1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon (mild) to 1 tablespoon (HOT) crushed red pepper– to taste!

Mix peanut butter, sesame oil, ginger & red pepper. Add enough oil that the mixture is thin enough to coat the chicken– about the consistency of honey. Put the chicken into the peanut butter mixture to coat. Marinate for a minimum of 1/2 hours, up to 24 hours.

    Start your grill.

Thread the chicken on skewers (if you’re using wooden skewers, don’t forget to soak them for 1/2 hour+). Put skewers on a hot grill, and cook 4 minutes one side, 3 minutes the second side.

Rib Eye Steaks with Bleu Cheese Butter

    This one is very simple:

    Ingredients:

4 rib eye steaks– size based on how hungry you are!
Salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste

    Bleu cheese butter:
4 tablespoons room temp bleu cheese
6 tablespoons room temp salted butter

    Preparation:

Heat up your grill. While heating, mix the bleu cheese and butter together and put in refrigerator. Cook the rib eyes to your taste- rare, medium, or heaven forbid well done.

When your steaks are cooked, let rest for 5 to 10 minutes. When ready to serve, put a large dollop of the bleu cheese/butter mixture on top of each steak. Serve with a loaf of crusty French bread, green salad and an appetite!

If you’re really ambitious, caramelize a lot of onions and serve with the steak.

    Orange Ginger Glazed Ribs

    2 pounds pork ribs
    Marinade
    1/4 cup soy sauce
    1/4 cup ginger (minced)
    4 scallions (chopped)
    2 pieces star anise
Combine marinade ingredients. Marinate ribs overnight.

    Sauce:
    1/2 cup chicken broth
    1/2 cup sugar
    4 Tbs. orange peel (chopped)
    1 Tbs. ginger (minced)
    1 clove garlic (minced)
    2 Tbs. olive oil
    juice from 3 fresh oranges
Combine sauce ingredients in a saucepan. Reduce by 1/3.

Grill ribs all the while brushing with sauce.

You’ll also probably need a nice salad to go with that:

    Garbanzo Salad

2 cups canned, drained garbanzo (chicken peas)
½ cup cooked, chopped king crab or shrimp
    ½ cup slivered ham
½ cup of slivered American cheese
½ cup fine chopped green bell pepper
½ cup fine chopped red bell pepper
2 chopped hard-boiled eggs (if you prefer, just the whites)
    Salt and freshly ground pepper
    1 tablespoon chopped chives
    ¼ cup chopped parley
    1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice
    ½ cup mayonnaise (optional)

Combine by tossing lightly the garbanzo, crab, ham, cheese, green and red pepper, eggs, chives, and parsley. Sprinkle with oil and lemon juice. Add season and mayonnaise. Cover with a plastic film and refrigerate for about 2 hours. Serves 4 to 5.

    Hello Roxy Luve,
Here are come great dessert recipes for your party.

I always have tons of fresh fruit on hand at my pool parties. I would start the party at 4:00, that way you can eat dinner, swim and play and still catch some fireworks.

Here are three links to my favorite party recipes.

(These are great cupcakes, use a tub of store bought fudge frosting to save you time!)

This cheesecake is so creamy and delicious. It also is nicely served with fresh berries and fruit!

Good Luck! Have a Wonderful 4th of July!
